Swimming
Lazy Rock has a small, hard packed sandy beach to enjoy the secluded spring fed lake with an average summer temp around 24C. Jump off our main dock or dive off the floating platform for hours of summer fun. Take a short drive into Mattawa and jump in the Mattawa or Ottawa river system.
Boating
We offer electric boats, canoe, kayak, paddleboat, rowboat and paddleboard rentals or feel free to bring your own! No gas motors on our lake, but find a boat launch minutes away where you can travel over 200km along the Mattawa & Ottawa Rivers or find one of the many other lakes in the region to explore.
Fishing
The park sits on the little 4 square km, spring fed Taggart Lake, filled with large mouth bass and very occasionally other fish like trout, perch and small mouth bass. Explore the region where there are plenty of lakes and rivers to catch every other Northern Ontario species!
Night Sky Viewing
Under low moonlight you can enjoy the milky way, view the constellations or just marvel in the millions of little stars that light up the night sky. There is zero light pollution in our beautiful Northern campground. Occasionally we get to enjoy thousands of fireflies that light up our path! It's almost something out of a fairytale.
Off-Roading
Over 300km of VMUTS trails in the area perfect for your toys! Brave the infamous 666 trail or enjoy the more leisurely routes. You can get to the trails from the park through 21km of beautiful back-country roads or trailer in to one of the trail system's parking lots. Yes we are ATV friendly! Hiking & Cycling
Drive minutes away to the Eau Claire Gorge conservation area. Hike or cycle through Samuel de Champlain Provincial Park or the VMUTS multi-use trails and uncover some breathtaking scenery and points of interest! Guests that bring their own canoe or kayak to cross the Ottawa River can hike up the Laurentian Mountains to the 3 crosses fantastic look-out point (experienced hikers only)!
Wildlife Viewing
Watch countless bird species flit through the trees, and don't miss the adorable chipmunks—they’ve been trained to eat nuts right from your hand. Keep your eyes peeled for some of our more elusive visitors like moose, foxes, and who knows what else! There’s always something magical to experience in the great outdoors here.
Arts & Culture
The area's hand carved statues summarize the North American explorers' historical exploits and connection to the region leading you on a journey that leads to the historic Mattawa Museum. Visit our local artisans and antique shops while you're here. Visit world renowned artist Clermont Duval for a history lesson on the town and to browse his beautiful gallery.
Sports & Rec
Horseback Riding, Golf, Paintball, Gym, Curling, Splashpad and more. We are centrally located between a 9 hole course as well as an 18 hole range. Take full advantage of Northern Ontario's versatile terrain and enjoy the beautiful landscapes that can only be found in this amazing region.
Campfire Fun
Gather around the crackling campfire and make lasting memories under the stars. Share stories, sing your favorite songs, or just enjoy the warmth and glow of the flames. Don’t forget the marshmallows—whether it’s s’mores or a simple roasted treat, it’s all part of the classic camping experience.
Local Shops
Pick up some goods on site like firewood, ice, ice-cream etc. or find Grocery Stores, Beer, Liquor Stores, Gas Stations, Bait, Tackle, Hardware, Clothing, Pharmacy, Discount Stores and more in the town of Mattawa. Just a quick 5 minute drive from the grounds can provide all the essentials you may have forgot or run out of to help ensure you have the best stay possible.
